Confectionery/Sweets Category: 

·        -  Understand technologies. Learn about and create a knowledge base of materials, manufacturing techniques and equipment.

·         - Understand products. Learn about product and packaging attributes.

·         - Understand markets. Learn about and create a knowledge base of consumer and shopper desires as well as customer and governmental requirements.

·        -  Invent and develop new lines of business. Create and support new brands, products, line extensions and product improvements to help the company achieve its financial plan and Vision of Growth by utilizing the knowledge base.

  Summary of Job Functions:

 The Research & Development Manager is a hands-on technical leader in the laboratory and Manufacturing facility who supervises a team of associates that are seeking to scientifically  understand confectionery products and market reactions to those products to ultimately realize the company’s financial plan and Vision of Growth.

The individual in this role also leads and manages the organization’s Product Safety Program (e.g. HACCP, etc.), including development, execution and improvement. In addition, this individual supports processes and behaviors that create a safe work environment for all associates.

The essential problem the Research & Development Manager solves is what new experiences, brands and products will satisfy market desires and how can those products be manufactured in alignment with the company’s principles of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.

The Research & Development Manger solves the essential problem by leading rapid cycles of learning on different confectionery product alternatives, which includes using intuition, hypothesis generation, product prototyping, hypothesis testing, knowledge sharing and talent development.

The Research & Development Manager is responsible for five major outcomes in the organization:

- Product Safety Program that meets and preferably exceeds governmental and Third-party standards.

·         - Product prototypes that can be used to learn about market desires.

·        -  Market research that increases learning and ultimately leads to Happy Consumer Experiences and the realization of the financial plan and Vision of Growth.

·        -  Knowledge Base that captures data, conclusions and recommendations useful to product development and product improvement initiatives and makes those available to users as appropriate (i.e. education of others).

·         - Development of people in the Research & Development Team.



·         - At least bachelor degree in Food Science, Chemistry or related,

·         - M.S. in Chemistry or Food related discipline strongly preferred

·         - Experience in a broad area of food machinery and equipment selection and application, confectionary knowledge desirable

·         - Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
- Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

·         - A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected

·        -  Team orientated & proven leader
